CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Introduction to Pilates - THIS IS WHERE YOU BEGIN!

This series of 5 one hour classes is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge of the Pilates discipline. Pilates fundamentals, terminology, correct body alignment and spinal mechanics build the foundation needed to perform the Pilates work and Ron Fletcher Work™. These classes are offered in a private setting, a duet (shared with another) or you can pre-register for a group class.
*After completing this series, students will be eligible to participate in Pilates Mat and Fletcher Floorwork group classes. *

Pilates Mat

Pilates Mat is based upon the authentic philosophy and “body contrology” exercises -such as “100’s” and the “Roll Up” - developed by fitness pioneer Joseph H. Pilates. This class is an excellent tool for increasing core strength, flexibility, overall muscle strength and better postural alignment. Correct execution of the exercises (along with Percussive Breathwork™) will result in core conditioning, uniform muscle development and tone, centering, spinal articulation, and other principles which assist in efficiency and effectivness of day to day movement and an overall sense of well-being. “Sound body, Sound mind…”

Fletcher Floorwork™

Classical Pilates techniques are combined with other movement forms providing a full-body experience that increases strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. The elegant and physical patterns of movement are floor-based, however each class will also incorporate valuable shoulder girdle stabilization and resistance work by using the Towelwork™ and/or the Magic Circle. These lightweight/portable resistance tools open and expand anterior chest muscles, increase shoulder girdle range of motion and prepare the body for weight bearing work on the Cadillac and the Reformer equipment.

Group Reformer

Utilizing a unique piece of "resistance" equipment, the Group Reformer class caters to each student's individual ability and strength. The spring-based resistance provided by Reformer combined with Pilates exercises work simultaneously to tone, center, lengthen and strengthen the entire body. Class size is limited to five students which allows more individualized instruction.
**Introduction to Reformer and/or Private instruction is a pre-requisite to this class.**

Group "Wunda" Chair

Like all of the equipment invented by Joseph Pilates, the Chair offers resistance training to strengthen core muscles. Each important spinal mechanic is addressed with specific exercises that strengthen the body and improve flexibility. The Wunda Chair is considered the most advanced piece of equipment and is challenging for even the most advanced student.
**Private instruction and/or teacher approval is a pre-requisite to this class.**

YOGA

An ancient Indian body of knowledge that dates back more than 5000 years ago. The word "Yoga" came from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite or integrate." Yoga then is about the union of a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. Yoga Exercises improve circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which can generally result to better health.

Available to all levels of experience. Classes can be modified based on participant experience and needs.

ZUMBA

Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO" allowing Zumba participants to stick to the Zumba Fitness program and achieve long-term health benefits. Zumba is a “feel-happy” workout that is great for both the body and the mind.

ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International music - dance themes that create a dynamic, exciting, effective fitness system! The routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.
